OPERATION LEUKEMIA ELIMINATION
BATTLE FOR GABRIEL
On December 22, 2010, Gabriel was diagnosed with T-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. After an air ambulance transport from Reno, Nevada to Oakland, California, Gabriel was admitted for treatment at Children’s Hospital and Research Center Oakland. Gabriel is now home in Reno, but will continue to receive treatment both in Reno and Oakland until May, 2014.
Gabriel is fighting the battle of his life, and we are here to support him. However, as with any war, it comes with tremendous costs – both physical, emotional, and financial.
A benefit fund has been established to help offset the expenses associated with Gabriel’s treatment, including the tens of thousands of dollars in expenses which have already accrued in the last three months for his treatment and associated with traveling from Reno to Oakland. Once funds are no longer necessary to help off-set the expenses related to Gabriel’s treatment, the Fairbank’s have committed to donating all remaining proceeds to assist other families in the Northwestern Nevada/Northeastern California area who are also faced with the physical, emotional and financial burdens associated with the diagnosis of a catastrophic illness.
You can help Gabriel, and future families, in the following ways:
- Purchase an “Operation Leukemia Elimination – Battle for Gabriel” bracelet. All proceeds go to the “Gabriel Fairbank Medical Expenses Trust”;
- Sponsor Chet Fairbank at Western States, Tahoe Rim Trail, and/or the Bear, or another runner for one or more ultra running events this summer by filling out a sponsorship form and making a payment to the PayPal fundraising account established for the benefit of the “Gabriel Fairbank Medical Expense Trust Fund”;
- Make a monetary donation via PayPal or by check (account information provided upon request).
- Follow Gabriel’s progress and learn about other fundraising activities, including t-shirt sales and a benefit run here.
If you would like to purchase a support bracelet, please click on the image below. Please note, the cost include shipping. If you are interested in purchasing more than one bracelet, please drop us an email and we’ll send you an invoice with just one shipping charge. Also, if you live near us, just let us know, as we almost always have a few on us.

And, if you would like to sponsor Chet for a certain sum of money per mile at any one of his 100 mile races this summer, or if you would like to sponsor another runner for any event, or if you are a runner and you would like to run in support of Gabriel an event this year, please contact us at Operation [dot] Leukemia [dot] Elimination[at] gmail [dot] com for more information about how you can do so.

Bought my bracelet last week at Way Too Cool. It’s the perfect addition to my racing attire. I love it! My thoughts are with you guys – hope the treatments continue to go well! Your family is an inspiration.
Send me info on T-shirts as I run each 4th of July for the local cancer center and I would be honored to run with Gabe this year in Colorado.
Dude..we need 2 t-shirts and 4 bracelets to start!
Hi Micheline,
Julianna (mujul79) from preg.org just let me know about Gabe. I’m also from preg.org (CamelNoodle/jayceebea/~Janel~)) and was on the September 04 board. I am sorry to hear the news. On Feb 21st, my oldest son Will was diagnosed with cancer. And it’s been a whirlwind just like your family has been through. I just wanted to let you know that we are thinking of you and your family.

Hi Chet and Micheline,
My son Brandon is signing up to run a 5K race (5000 benefit race for Issac Young) on Saturday May 21st, we would like to buy a kids size shirt from you so he can wear during his race and one XL for me. Can you guys get one of each for us and we can either pick it up from you or mail it and we will send you a check for the total?
Also 3 more bracelets if possible (they are super cool!)
Thank you!
Chet,
See you at Western States dude!
Going to be trying to keep up with Troska on the last leg =)
